Heliogram.01 is a 3-layer, 3-dimensional composition that creates a large-scale, surreal diorama. Displayed in Captiol Hill of Seattle 2021, Heliogram.01 is meant to be a beacon of hope. a reminder that no matter what the Sun will always rise and set.

The installation's timing held a profound significance for the community, particularly amid the stress and separation brought about by the pandemic. Our intention was to provide a moment, encouraging individuals to step outdoors and take a moment to breathe. The premiere coincided with the first day of the Seattle snowstorm, and as everyone embarked on separate journeys through the snow, the shared experience of the heliogram felt like a uniquely special moment, even in our physical distance from one another.

A stark, glowing sphere between layers of shining, otherworldly landscape reflects and glimmers light off of ambient rippling water. Representing the sun and moon, the sphere physically raises and lowers inside the piece. As it does, the color temperatures of the sphere change from dusk to daytime, daytime to dawn, dawn to twilight, and back again, influencing the lighting of the landscape.
